About the event
“Don’t you know the horribly dark place, don’t you know that the evil one lives there?”: The parents rush into the forest to save Hansel and Gretel from the crispy witch Rosina Sweet Mouth. As feared, the children got lost in the forest and came across the gingerbread house. They can't resist the sweet temptation - and fall into the trap of the witch, who literally loves children to eat... As in most of the Brothers Grimm's stories, everything turns out well in Engelbert Humperdinck's fairytale setting in the end: but until then, Humperdinck's guidance romantic music takes the children deep into the dark, legendary forest: Here she conjures up magical creatures, calls on 14 angels to protect her siblings and carries the witch through the air on her broom. Today, Humperdinck's classic, which premiered in Weimar in 1893, belongs to the Christmas season like the Advent wreath - and has been taking young and young-at-heart audiences around the world back to the fairytale kingdom ever since. Production: Peter Beauvais Set design: Jan Schlubach Costumes: Barbara Bilabel / Susanne Raschig
